Octavia's Brood Fall Preview!!

We have an incredible fall lined up for you and just wanted to highlight a few of the events we'll be offering up.

On September 12-14, adrienne maree brown and Walidah Imarisha will present and participate at Ferguson is the Future, a symposium of black speculative fiction writers, activists, filmmakers, academics and artists. We are excited to be a part of this historic gathering, along with so many of the writers and artists we look up to - Tananarive Due and Steven Barnes, Nisi Shawl, Nalo Hopkinson, Nnedi Okorafor, John Jennings (who did the cover of Octavia’s Brood!), Daniel Jose Older, Sofia Samatar, Andrea Hairston and Rasheedah Phillips, Soraya Jean-Louis McElroy, Asli Dukan.


Walidah will then head to Hawaii, meeting up with contributor Gabriel Teodros, where they will speak and facilitate a writing workshop at Creating Futures Rooted in Wonder: Bridges between Indigenous, Science Fiction and Fairy Tale Studies September 16-19. On September 30, adrienne will be bringing sci-fi and social justice to the closing plenary of the Environmental Grantmakers Association gathering.

October 7, adrienne will join Alixa Garcia, Jelani Wilson, Vagabond and Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha at the Schomberg's season opening, hosted by John Jennings. This will be the first official Octavia's Brood reading in New York!

On October 10, Walidah and Gabriel will speak at the Girl Geek Con in Seattle. Oct. 14, adrienne and Alexis Pauline Gumbs will speak at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. The Brood will also be in the Twins Cities with the Givens Foundation Oct. 17 (more details TBA)


October 26, adrienne will speak at Arts in a Changing America in New York. To close out the month, adrienne and Leah will light up the Queer Lit Festival at Rutgers University on October 29.

On November 10, adrienne will be a plenary speaker at the Badgers Bioneers Conference in Madison, WI. Walidah and adrienne will keynote the Cascadia Media Convergence on Nov 14, and do a mini-Northwest Octavia’s Brood tour Nov. 13-17. At the same time, several of the Brood writers go on retreat at Blue Mountain Center.
